What is an ideal customer profile?
An ideal customer profile (ICP) is a precise description of the one customer your product fits best: who they are, the situation they are in right now, what makes them urgently need a solution, and where to reach them. It is the foundation every other decision rests on, your messaging, pricing, and go-to-market. Get it vague and everything downstream gets vague too. See the ICP definition in the glossary or the full guide to building an ICP.

Frequently asked questions
What is an ideal customer profile template?+
It's a structured, fill-in document that walks you through defining your best-fit customer: their identity, situation, pains, desired outcome, and where to reach them. It turns a vague "small businesses" into a specific person you can actually market to.
What's the difference between an ICP and a buyer persona?+
An ICP describes the ideal company or customer type that gets the most value from your product. A persona is a more detailed sketch of an individual within that profile. Start with the ICP, then build personas inside it.
How detailed should an ICP be?+
Specific enough to write one line of copy from. "Solo bookkeepers managing 15 to 30 clients still emailing spreadsheets" is useful; "small businesses" is not. If you can't name where to find them, it's not narrow enough yet.
Is the template really free?+
Yes. Enter your email and we'll send it over, no credit card. It's a lite version of the ICP that solvee builds with you inside the product.
